Family Therapy

Families change. Relationships change. Sometimes we need help finding our way through those changes.

Family relationships can be some of the most important relationships in our lives — and some of the most complicated.

Conflict, changing family circumstances, separation, parenting challenges, loss and differences between generations can all place pressure on family relationships.

Family therapy provides a space where different perspectives can be heard and difficult conversations can take place with support.

What can family therapy help with?

Family therapy may be helpful when you are experiencing:

  • Communication difficulties

  • Recurring family conflict

  • Parent–teenager difficulties

  • Family tension

  • Estrangement or emotional distance

  • Separation and divorce

  • Co-parenting difficulties

  • Blended family challenges

  • Changing family roles

  • Boundaries

  • Differences between generations

  • Major family transitions

  • Grief and bereavement

  • Neurodiversity within the family

  • Differences in needs, communication and understanding

Making space for every voice

Families can become caught in patterns where everyone feels unheard.

One person's attempt to be understood can feel to another like criticism. A parent's concern can be experienced by a teenager as control. Someone's withdrawal can be interpreted as not caring.

These patterns can become increasingly difficult to change.

Family therapy creates space to slow those interactions down and understand what is happening from different perspectives.

There is no perfect family

My role isn't to create an idealised version of family life.

Every family has its own history, relationships, personalities and challenges.

Instead, I help families develop greater understanding of one another, communicate more openly and find ways of relating that feel healthier and more manageable.

Starting family therapy

You don't need to know exactly what needs to change before contacting me.

We can begin by talking about what is happening and what you would like to be different.
